Greetings,
I’m Ms.Penney! I’m from Atlanta, Georgia, but I currently live in a Tiny House that my husband and I built in Oakland. In March, the Tiny House became a bit more cramped, as we welcomed our Daughter, Stokely. She’s the best baby on this side of the Mississipi, but I might have a small genetic bias.

I’m entering my third year at the Academy, and I absolutely LOVE it. I teach Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science. It’s Ironic because though I’ve always had a particular aptitude for computers, I struggled with Math and Physics in school. Believe it or not, I always pictured myself becoming a writer. I spent my early twenties writing for fashion magazines, and writing film and music reviews in LA and New York. That was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot, but nothing has been more fulfilling than teaching STEM classes. Once I discovered how math and science are connected to computers, art, and design, I became really engaged by the possibilities. While I don’t think everyone should become an engineer, I think we can really gain a lot by problem-solving through an Engineer’s perspective.
Once you’ve gone through all 4 tabs of ‘Virtual Meet Ms. Penney’ I’d love to hear about your relationship with math, computers, and science. Please pass along some book recommendations, if there’s anything you’ve been enjoying. Also, feel free to create two truths and a lie, maybe we can play as a class on the first day of school.
